project cci ual staff interviews

useful discussion from supervision-250226 around things to consider for the staff interviews.

1 - recruit / scope (questionnaire)

I am thinking to start with a more personalised invite to people that I know/work closely with before

  • I’ll send a short survey (5–8 Qs) to staff, with the aim to:
    1. Map teaching roles, engagement, brief opinions re. AI.
    2. Recruit for interviews.

2 -semi-structured interviews

  • 30-45 minute semi-structured interviews
  • can I offer participants different modes of interview to be more accommodating to varying and busy schedules (shorter, online, asynchronous written responses)

3 - analysis

  • Questionnaire data - simple descriptives (counts, word clouds for open comments).
  • Interviews - thematic analysis.

Compare the two, to see what emerges
Feedback summary email at the end - for reciprocity

what do I want to find out?

How are we across CCI, teaching AI literacy? What position are we taking?

should CCI take a defining and innovative stance on how we teach with AI

How is AI introduced to students?

When do we talk about it first in the pedagogical process? (probably key differences in teaching postgraduate vs undergraduate)

Opinions on AI integration in learning - positive or negative, if negative ask why
As educators do we have a responsibility to prepare students for this landscape

focus groups?
questionnaire?
teaching observations (ethics form doesn’t account for this, so will need to submit another for this/ work out if it’s valuable or useful)

the above are all interesting points, but quite generalised. I think it would be good to make the interviews more in service of my research projects that I am exploring

General themes:

feelings around AI in education, views on more ethical ways forward, institutional perspective, anxieties around the topic?

what are the general stances on AI use in education ?
why and what concerns?

what do people think about the development of bespoke (open-source/local) tools?

the term AI literacy is being thrown around a lot, what doest this mean to you? How do you think we might teach this?

How do people think that CCI / UAL role should approach teaching with genAI everywhere?

How do you imagine we might assess work more practically?

what role do you believe CCI/ UAL as an institution should take with AI?

the vibe-coding question - do you think there is benefit to this top down approach, rather than growth from the fundamentals

what do I want the findings from this to feed into?

development of the diy-bot project framing
more accurate understanding from other peers what their concerns are + gain other insights
idea of what people think about the future impacts of genAI on learning
