today:

• listened to a really interesting podcast called ‘universities in crisis’ which really explains clearly the build up of events and legislation that has led to the circumstances of UK high education today, this is really helpful context and framing for the research, particularly in shaping the way I can speak about universities being more impossibility-spaces right now. In part 2 of the podcast (around 36 minutes) they speak about the universities being part of shaping the ‘canon’ - this is interesting and was also spoken about in matuschak-2024-might-we-learn were Matuschak talks about canonical texts still being important despite of any AI tools that might help you in your learning process. This is something that I haven’t really thought so much about so far, but seems of critical importance, in particular the idea that through the emergence of all of these AI / LLM tools, we lose a sense of the canon (this is acknowledging that ideas of canonical sources can limit the prevalence of other voices ie. more marginalised people not getting seen). The canon is very linked to power and influence.
