Evans, James, Benjamin Bratton, and Blaise Agüera y Arcas. “Agentic AI and the next Intelligence Explosion.” Science 391, no. 6791 (2026): eaeg1895. https://doi.org/10.1126/science.aeg1895.
this paper drew parallels between collective intelligence in society (‘institutional templates’ such as courtrooms, markets and bureaucracies) and the developing and emerging functionality and capabilities of agentic AI.
I think its interesting to consider institutional structures of AI agents and how that co-exists with human institutions - which feels especially relevant to my research and how it pertains to educational institutes.
I also think it brings up interesting questions around a perceived understanding of intelligent people, often seeing contributions as singular ( this has never really been true), but I feel as though as LLM/Agentic AI development continues this is a challenge to these previously held ideas. The paper ends with this phrase ‘no mind is an island’ which is thought provoking %% rewrite better later %%
