Matuschak, Andy. _How might we learn? UCSD Design@Large. May 8, 2024. https://andymatuschak.org/hmwl.
Watching this was very inspiring and incredibly relevant to the work that I am doing
I have written some of my notes in my sketchbook and will aim to transfer them here tomorrow:
starting point, imagine what the ideal learning environment would be like
ie. the most rewarding high growth period of your life learning wasn’t the point. Instead, they were immersed in a situation with real personal meaning—like a startup, a research project, an artistic urge, or just a fiery curiosity. They dove in, got their hands dirty, and learned whatever was important along the way.
But when I look at others’ visions of chatbot tutors through the much broader framing we’ve been discussing—they’re clearly missing a lot of what I want. I think these visions also often fail to take seriously just how much a real tutor can do. In large part, I think that’s because the authors of these visions are usually thinking about educating (something they want to do to others) rather than learning (something they want for themselves) --> I like this perspective of thinking of teaching in the way that you like to work
he talks about the difference between implicit learning and guided learning and that they both have flaws, but would benefit from being more integrated
The revisions below show how this note has changed over time.
