performance-practice-as-understanding
“However, we argue that all performance practices (including music) offer a special way of understanding software and that this has radical potential for all software—not only for artists, their audiences, and art theorists but also for engineers, philosophers, and activists”
(chapter 1, livecoding manual)
this quote make me think about how, through performance there are other qualities of understanding (ie. unspoken, embodied) that can be amplified. this is something that I want to think more about in my quest to see if you can ‘live code a phd’. it is also feedback that I recieved after my first attempt at communicating the project-phd-live-platform as an attempt at live-coding-a-phd. Is it really performance, what are the performance qualities and what could they add to the whole research, learning process?
The revisions below show how this note has changed over time.
