this is not novel (tech wise)
it is not better (experience wise) than using a commercial LLM platform. Even open source versions such as LLM studio and LocalAI (amongst others) provide an ‘out of the box’ solution that wouldn’t require building from scratch.

so…

what are the benefits of building this vs downloading something that exists?

• a more in depth understanding of how it works as you are building from scratch.
• ability to personalise down to granular details
• sense of ownership which is nice

overall as tech is continually developing, the need to build from scratch may no be necessary - right now it feels a useful task.

from a teaching perspective I am very interested to work out legible and clear to understand frameworks for teaching people to build these systems themselves and show what the benefits of doing this are.
